“Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea” (Matthew 18:5-6).

“Porn doesn’t have a demographic—it goes across all demographics” (Paul Fishbein, founder of Adult Video News-site)

Hugh Hefner, founder of Playboy magazine and an entire Porn enterprise that goes with it, died on September 27, 2017 at the age of 91. He founded Playboy in 1953 and was a part of the business until his death.

In 2015 Playboy announced that it would no longer carry nude pictures in its magazines (source). This should be good news for many that see pornography as a great danger to society, however, this is not the case! Albert Mohler comments:

“Playboy acknowledged that its decision had nothing to do with any admission that pornography is morally wrong. Instead, the publishers of the magazine were acknowledging that their product was no longer commercially viable as explicit pornography because pornography is so pervasive in the Internet age that no one need buy their product” (source).

I know many, many men who’ve told me that their first exposure to Porn was by finding a Playboy magazine under the mattress of a relative or neighbor’s house, or in some other way. They’ve also told me that those images have remained with them for life and had opened the door to harder forms of Porn and have, now at this point in their lives, affected their families negatively.

STATS ON PORN

All you have to do is google “Negative Effects of Pornography” and you will see for yourself the many articles and mounds of data showing how destructive porn is. One of the best sites that sums up much of the information on the damaging effects of porn is found here.

Below I’ll list just a sampling of some of the negative effects of porn, statistically.

According to the Journal of Adolescent Health, prolonged exposure to pornography leads to:
–– An exaggerated perception of sexual activity in society
–– Diminished trust between intimate couples
–– The abandonment of the hope of sexual monogamy
–– Belief that promiscuity is the natural state
–– Belief that abstinence and sexual inactivity are unhealthy
–– Cynicism about love or the need for affection between sexual partners
–– Belief that marriage is sexually confining
–– Lack of attraction to family and child-raising (source-Covenant Eyes ebook of 2015 stats on porn)

When a child or adolescent is directly exposed to pornography the following effects have been
documented:
–– Lasting negative or traumatic emotional responses.
–– Earlier onset of first sexual intercourse, thereby increasing the risk of STDs over
the lifespan.
–– The belief that superior sexual satisfaction is attainable without having affection for
one’s partner, thereby reinforcing the commoditization of sex and the objectification
of humans.
–– The belief that being married or having a family are unattractive prospects.
–– Increased risk for developing sexual compulsions and addictive behavior.
–– Increased risk of exposure to incorrect information about human sexuality long
before a minor is able to contextualize this information in ways an adult brain could.
–– Overestimating the prevalence of less common practices (e.g., group sex, bestiality,
or sadomasochistic activity)–(source-Covenant Eyes ebook of 2015 stats on porn)

“By 2004, porn sites were getting three times more visitors than Google, Yahoo!, and MSN Search put together. It was ‘big business’ in a way the world had never seen before. Thirty percent of all internet data was related to porn,  and worldwide porn revenues (including internet, sex shops, videos rented in hotel rooms, etc.) grew to exceed the incomes of Microsoft, Google, Amazon, eBay, Yahoo!, Apple, Netflix, and Earthlink combined!” (source).

Stats below from Josh McDowell’s site here:

  • More than one quarter (27%) of young adults ages 25-30 first viewed pornography before puberty and
  • Among ages 13-17: 8% daily; 18% weekly; 17% once or twice a month
  • Among ages 18-24: 12% daily; 26% weekly; 19% once or twice a month
  • Among ages 25-30: 8% daily; 17% weekly; 20% once or twice a month

I use Grammarly everyday and highly recommend it to you, especially if you type and write a lot!

THE UNBELIEVABLE DAMAGE AND LEGACY OF PORN

Given the stats on porn, there’s probably not a family in all of North America, or maybe even in most of the world, that has not felt the negative ripple effect of porn’s influence. Given the damage that Porn does, let us now ponder the staggering collateral damage that Porn has done to countless millions of families & children, in particular. The children of a former generation who found Playboy magazines hidden under mattresses have now found themselves hooked, just like their relatives or friends were in former years. How many wives have been affected by Porn’s (&, thus, Hugh’s influence!) by feeling insecure at a husband who refuses to put the Porn down? How many men have lost the respect of their families due to the presence of Porn in their lives? How many men have lost their jobs due to looking at porn at work or due to persistent poor performance at work due to constant Porn binges in the wee hours of the night? How many children today are feeling the effects of the influence of a Playboy magazine that their grandfathers looked at many years ago? How many newly married couples have felt the ripple effects of Porn in their marriage when the husband seems distant because of the guilt he feels acting out with Porn privately? How many young women live with great shame with their own Porn addiction and are much less likely to seek out help because Porn is a “guy’s struggle”?

Addiction to porn grows quickly in the dark, in secrecy, and is stunted when exposed and brought to the light. Click To Tweet

Again, as we consider all the stats of Porn users with the proliferation of Porn on the internet, coupled with the great ease of anonymity and access due to smartphones, we have a major problem on our hands of epic proportions.

Do some doubt porn’s influence and call it “harmless”? Consider that Canada has declared that porn is a public health crisis as well as the state of Utah.

SERIAL KILLER TED BUNDY AND THE UNDENIABLE INFLUENCE OF PORNOGRAPHY

Also, consider the fact that serial killer Ted Bundy has attributed hardcore porn as a factor in his numerous killings.  Bundy, in his final interview, says the following about porn:

“As a young boy of 12 or 13, I encountered, outside the home, in the local grocery and drug stores, softcore pornography. Young boys explore the sideways and byways of their neighborhoods, and in our neighborhood, people would dump the garbage. From time to time, we would come across books of a harder nature – more graphic. This also included detective magazines, etc., and I want to emphasize this. The most damaging kind of pornography – and I’m talking from hard, real, personal experience – is that that involves violence and sexual violence. The wedding of those two forces – as I know only too well – brings about behavior that is too terrible to describe…Before we go any further, it is important to me that people believe what I’m saying. I’m not blaming pornography. I’m not saying it caused me to go out and do certain things. I take full responsibility for all the things that I’ve done. That’s not the question here. The issue is how this kind of literature contributed and helped mold and shape the kinds of violent behavior” (BILLY’S EMPHASIS source).

Bundy continues:

“Basically, I was a normal person…I wasn’t some guy hanging out in bars, or a bum. I wasn’t a pervert in the sense that people look at somebody and say, ‘I know there’s something wrong with him.’ I was a normal person. I had good friends. I led a normal life, except for this one, small but very potent and destructive segment that I kept very secret and close to myself. Those of us who have been so influenced by violence in the media, particularly pornographic violence, are not some kind of inherent monsters. We are your sons and husbands. We grew up in regular families. Pornography can reach in and snatch a kid out of any house today. It snatched me out of my home 20 or 30 years ago. As diligent as my parents were, and they were diligent in protecting their children, and as good a Christian home as we had, there is no protection against the kinds of influences that are loose in a society that tolerates…I’m no social scientist, and I don’t pretend to believe what John Q. Citizen thinks about this, but I’ve lived in prison for a long time now, and I’ve met a lot of men who were motivated to commit violence. Without exception, every one of them was deeply involved in pornography – deeply consumed by the addiction. The F.B.I.’s own study on serial homicide shows that the most common interest among serial killers is pornographers. It’s true” (BILLY’S EMPHASIS source).

I buy almost all my books on amazon.com as "used" since they are cheaper and they usually have what I'm looking for.

THE LEGACY THAT HUGH HEFNER LEAVES

Certainly, pornography and obsession with deviant and immoral sexual behavior have been around as long as humans have existed, but one cannot overlook Hefner as the primary driver of pornography into mainstream culture over the past 60 years. How many boys and girls, grown men, and women today, are feeling the ripple effects of the work of pornography, and thus, the work of Hugh Hefner? The legacy that Hefner & porn leaves is one full pain, broken marriages, destructive lives, and despair beyond words.
