What would it take to convince you that Christianity was false? Would you be surprised if I told you that the Bible tells us how to prove Christianity false? Do other belief systems give you the one way to prove that it is false within its own holy texts? (If you find where other belief systems or religions tell you, within their own holy texts, where you can prove that they are false, please let me know in the “Comment” section below this post!)  In fact, one of the main proponents of Christianity actually tells us, in the Bible, how to prove that Christianity is false. Paul, the Apostle, show us how to do this in 1 Corinthians 15.

12 Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. 15 We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.

Did you see the primary way that Paul the apostle says that we can prove that all of Christianity is a hoax?  Simply produce the dead body of Jesus, and Christianity is over and done with!  Look again at the few times he mentions it in the passage itself.

14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain…17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.

If Christ has not been raised then our faith is in vain.  If Christ has not been raised then our faith is futile. If Christ has not been raised, then there is no afterlife and there’s no hope, certainly, in seeing any loved one again who have gone on before us, nor will we see any loved one after we die ourselves. And, finally, if Christ has not risen, then we, as Christians, are to be pitied.

Let us also note that it’s quite clear from the passage that Paul is not saying that Christ “figuratively” rose from the dead, nor is Paul saying that Christ “spiritually” rose from the dead, but Paul is asserting that Christ has physically, and literally, risen from the dead (see 1 Corinthians 15:3-8 where they speak of seeing Jesus physically).

If Christ is dead, then Christianity is dead.  If Christ has risen, then Christianity is true. But how do we show that Christ is risen, thus verifying that Christianity is true? On the other hand, if Christ has not risen, then Christianity is false (and something else is true!), so how could the skeptic show that Christ has “not risen”?

The reason I write this post is because many are meeting at church for Easter this coming Sunday (4/16/17) which is in celebration of Christ’s Resurrection. What I’m merely trying to show you is the importance of the Resurrection of Christ. Everything within Christianity hinges upon this central truth. If this central hinge of Christ’s resurrection fails, then the entire system Christianity collapses.

So how do we show that Christ has risen, thus giving strong evidence that Christianity is true? We do this by showing the evidence for Christ’s resurrection. However, I do not intend on speaking of the evidence for Christ’s Resurrection in this post.  It’s a topic I’ve spoken on numerous times and I am always happy to revisit the topic whenever necessary. In the meantime, I will point you to one of the best resurrection scholars on the planet named Gary Habermas. You can visit his website here and look at his resources, etc.  I would also recommend this article that sums up some of the evidence for Christ’s resurrection here. I recommend Gary Habermas’ book (co-authored by Mike Licona) on the Resurrection called “The Case for the Resurrection of Jesus” with the link below.

Happy Easter!
